How Memodyne worksHow Memodyne Works: nitric oxide, a vitamin, a mineral and one capsule
Memodyne is built on the nitric-oxide pathway. Four of the seven rows on its panel are arginine and citrulline in two forms each, 400 mg and 200 mg between them, and citrulline is the one that survives digestion well enough to raise plasma arginine. Niacin, calcium and beta-alanine do ordinary nutritional work at the amounts printed.
The mechanism is real, the evidence for it is vascular, and the panel shows how far one daily capsule sits from the amounts that were studied.
The pathway Memodyne is pointed at
Five steps, and the one place where the published evidence stops.

Nitric oxide is a gas your endothelium makes from arginine using nitric oxide synthase. It diffuses into the smooth muscle of the artery wall and relaxes it, which widens the vessel and lowers the pressure inside it. Brain tissue has no way to store fuel, so it depends on that supply minute by minute.
That is the whole argument for this formula, and it is a respectable one. What it is not is a memory mechanism with trial evidence attached. The measured outcomes in this literature are blood pressure, flow-mediated dilation and exercise capacity.
Arginine is the substrate, and the gut takes most of it
Oral arginine meets intestinal arginase before it meets the bloodstream. The crossover study was designed around exactly this problem, and it is the reason the effective amounts in the arginine literature are measured in grams.
Citrulline takes the back road
Citrulline is absorbed intact and converted to arginine in the kidney, so it raises plasma arginine more efficiently than arginine does. Both citrulline forms on this label feed the same step.
More substrate can mean more nitric oxide
In the same study, urinary nitrate and cyclic GMP both rose on the top citrulline arm, which is the biochemical signature of more nitric oxide being made. Flow-mediated dilation did not improve over baseline in any arm, and the authors reported that plainly. That top arm was 3 g twice a day; the panel carries 200 mg.
The vascular outcome is a few millimetres of mercury
Pooled across 15 trials in middle-aged and older adults, citrulline lowered systolic pressure by about 4 mmHg. Arginine at 4 g a day and above lowered it by about 6 mmHg. Useful, unglamorous, and not a cognitive endpoint.
Niacin, calcium and beta-alanine are nutrition, not pharmacology
At 7.5 mg niacin is nearly half its Daily Value; at 18 mg calcium is a trace; at 40 mg beta-alanine is a hundredth of its sports amount, and the one trial that looked for it in the brain found nothing at 6.4 g a day. None has a cognitive trial behind it at these amounts.
What Memodyne would have to clear to claim more
Four claims, and the evidence each one would need.
| The claim | What would have to exist | What exists today |
|---|---|---|
Raises plasma arginine | A pharmacokinetic study at 200 mg of citrulline and 400 mg of arginine | A study of citrulline at 1.5 g to 3 g twice a day, in a different product |
Increases cerebral blood flow | An imaging or Doppler study of this formula | No study of this formula, though the printed amounts would make one easy to design |
Improves memory | A randomised trial with a memory endpoint | One crossover trial of arginine and citrulline measuring reaction time after exercise, in twelve athletes |
Supports cognitive health | A structure and function claim, held to the FTC's evidence standard | This is the claim the supplier makes, and it is the permitted form |
The fourth row is the one on the bottle. The first three are what a reader might assume from the second, and the difference between them is the subject of this page.
There is one trial in this ingredient family with a cognitive endpoint. A randomised crossover in twelve taekwondo athletes gave 0.17 g per kilogram of branched-chain amino acids with 0.05 g per kilogram each of arginine and citrulline after simulated matches, roughly 3.5 g of each amino acid for a 70 kg adult, and measured reaction time with a sport-specific test. Reaction times held up in the supplemented trial and fell in the placebo trial, alongside a lower free tryptophan to BCAA ratio and higher nitrate. It is a study of central fatigue after hard exercise, in twelve young men, and it is the closest thing this ingredient list has to a cognitive result.
What actually moves cognition in the published record, and why Memodyne is not it
Three randomised programmes, and the one thread that connects them to this label.
A page about how a supplement works owes the reader the comparison it is avoiding. Three interventions have randomised trials with cognitive endpoints, and none of them is sold in a bottle.
- US POINTER randomised 2,111 adults aged 60 to 79 to a structured or a self-guided lifestyle programme for two years. Both groups improved; the structured arm improved faster, by 0.029 standard deviations a year.
- FINGER randomised 1,260 at-risk Finnish adults to a two-year multidomain programme of diet, exercise, cognitive training and vascular risk monitoring against general health advice, and measured a difference in the neuropsychological battery.
- A 2026 network meta-analysis of 38 trials in 2,928 adults over 65 found aerobic exercise improved all three executive-function domains in cognitively healthy people.
- Blood pressure is the thread that connects those to this bottle: the amino acids here have a small measured effect on it, and vascular risk is one of the levers those programmes pulled.
None of that makes the capsule pointless. It makes it small. A reader who wants the largest available effect should start with the programmes above and treat a daily capsule as the thing it is.
